OUR WORK
The coalition is not the single voice of tobacco control in Nevada. It is many voices speaking together. Through our organization, concerned Nevadans, organizations and public health officials have joined together in a statewide movement to end Big Tobacco's grip on our state.
More Nevadans, per capita, use tobacco than any other state in the nation. We are educating Nevadans about the dangers of tobacco use, protecting our children and giving a voice to the majority of Nevadans who don't use tobacco. Our Goal: An end to the death and suffering caused by tobacco use.
How We Do it
We work with member organizations and assist in communication between its members. This is done by providing training on grassroots organizing, working with the media, gathering and using data, speaking out on public policy and maximizing people and funds in the fight against tobacco.
By reducing tobacco use in the state, we can limit the exposure of nonsmokers to secondhand smoke, save lives and lower the economic impact to the state of treating smoking-related illness.
We strive to counter the marketing practices of the tobacco industry with the truth about tobacco use. Since tobacco products, when used as directed, can kill consumers; the tobacco industry must seek out new consumers and hook them as early as possible. Research shows that over half of Nevada's tobacco users want to quit. Our members work with them to increase their chances of successfully ending their addiction.
PHILOSOPHY
We the members of the Nevada Tobacco Prevention Coalition believe that reduction in the use of tobacco will create healthier lifestyles, longer lives, and a healthier environment for the people of Nevada.
The Coalition believes that to be effective leaders for this social change we must work collectively with integrity and devotion to our common purpose. We believe that by focusing our efforts on youth and by working to create a tobacco-free environment we will ultimately create a healthier Nevada.
Vision Statement
We envision a tobacco-free, healthy environment where all Nevadans can benefit from and experience optimal well-being.
OFFICES
The Nevada Tobacco Prevention Coalition is part of the American Cancer Society, Greatwest Division and is housed in the Las Vegas ACS office located at 6165 South Rainbow Blvd, Bldg 12.
